S-CAD User Manual

Simple & Smart 2D CAD / v2.4.1

1. Overview

  • S-CAD is a browser-based 2D CAD tool.
  • No installation or account registration is required.
  • You can save drawing data and export to PDF or SVG.

2. Features

S-CAD is designed to be easy to use, but understanding the concepts of objects, groups, and layers will make editing much smoother.

With only a few exceptions, you can think of everything in S-CAD as being built from lines and arcs. For example, a rectangle is a group made from four line objects. The corners can behave like a single point during editing, while still remaining editable as separate geometry when needed.

3. Quick Start

  1. Create a new drawing.
  2. Set units, scale, and paper size in Settings.
  3. Draw with tools such as line, circle, and rectangle.
  4. Save as JSON or export to PDF, SVG, or DXF.

4. Main Controls

  • Mouse wheel: Zoom
  • Middle mouse button or Alt+drag: Pan
  • Click: Select
  • Shift+click: Multi-select
  • Delete: Delete selected items

5. Selection Tool

The selection tool has both object-selection mode and group-selection mode. You can switch between them with the space key. It is important to stay aware of whether you are selecting individual objects or whole groups.

6. Edit Tools

  • Trim
  • Fillet
  • Vertex Editing
  • Pattern Copy

7. Layers and Groups

Layers and groups are similar organizational features. They make object management easier and increase editing flexibility.

Groups act like parents for their contained objects. A group can span multiple layers, can be moved or rotated, and can also contain nested groups. This makes it possible to build hierarchical structures such as robot arms or assemblies with multiple moving parts.

You can reorganize objects and groups freely with drag and drop inside the group panel. Keeping them organized as you work will save time later.

8. Trim and Fillet

S-CAD has a strong trim workflow. It is often efficient to draw aggressively intersecting construction lines first, then remove the unnecessary parts with trim.

Fillet creates a corner radius between two touching objects.

There are both trim and no-trim modes. If the automatic trim result is not what you want, create the fillet in no-trim mode and remove the extra parts manually with the trim tool.

Fillets can be edited later, including the radius value.

9. Settings

  • Grid visibility and snap options
  • Display quality, UI visibility, and helper overlays

10. Save, Load, Export

  • Save and load JSON project data
  • Export to SVG or PDF

11. Attributes

The snap panel contains an option called Keep Attributes.

When it is enabled, snapped vertex edits can keep attribute links, allowing them to follow the source object when that object moves.

When an object with attributes is selected, the attributes panel appears and lets you remove those links.
